Happy St. Patrick's Day to all.

The following is a little Irish humour that may lighten up your day.

As soon as she had finished parochial school, a bright young girl named Lena shook the dust of Ireland off her shoes and made her way to New York where before long, she became a successful performer in show business.

Eventually she returned to her home town for a visit and on a Saturday night went to confession in the church which she had always attended as a child. In the confessional Father Sullivan recognized her and began asking her about her work. She explained that she was an acrobatic dancer, and he wanted to know what that meant.

She said she would be happy to show him the kind of thing she did on stage.

She stepped out of the confessional and within sight of Father Sullivan, she went into a series of cartwheels, leaping splits, handsprings and backflips. Kneeling near the confessional, waiting their turn, were two middle-aged ladies. They witnessed Lena's acrobatics with wide eyes, and one said to the other:

"Will you just look at the penance Father Sullivan is givin' out this night, and me without me bloomers on!"

Hi Everybody,

Finally made it back on our Forum. Have been very busy but I guess it does not take much to keep me busy.
Had our first small snowfall of the season yesterday. It was much bigger in the south of the porovince. Met Joan B. yesterday
in the Mall and we had a great say.David Ronan also called when he was in the Miramichi a few weeks ago. Thanks for
calling David.
As most of you heard, we had a nice Luncheon at the Fundy Line Motel Conference room this summer.
Beryl C. happened to be in town as was Don Taylor. We were delighted to see them both. If any of you are interested
in another Luncheon before the snow really sets in, please let me know.
Daryl & I spent some time at Oak Point with the family. Also had a short trip to Bangor this fall. Daryl
keeps busy but can't burn the candle t both ends like we used to do,
Thank you Louis for keeping this forum for us,
. All the Best to all of you.

We have a new grandson who was born since the last time I posted a message on the Phorum. Our son Michael
and his wife had their first child. This is our 8th grandchild. Michael and his family live in
the town of Pangnirtung which is in the territory of Nunavut just above the Artic Circle. He works
for the company that purchased all the holdings of the Hudson Bay Company. They operate businesses
throughout Northern Canada.

Marion and I are still living a relatively active life. I do my best to keep up with her. She says
that age is just a number. She is to be installed soon as the Provincial President of the C.W.L. (Catholic Women's League)
in the province of New Brunswick. Our three daughters are married and living with their families here on the Miramichi, which is very nice. Two of them live in Blackville and one lives in Chatham.
I hope to keep in touch with all of you through the messages posted on the Forum. I have a question. What do you think of the Terry Jacks' song "Seasons In The Sun" that I added to the Jukebox on [www.miramichi-river.com] ?

I ventured out yesterday for my first outing after the surgerys. Got to see the people, lights, and no parking. I get 2 gifts, and came home, and fell asleep in the chair. I spent today thinking of Newcastle and it dawned on me, I never spent Christmas there in my life. I always spent it in Kouchibouguac. I would go by bus, a horse and sliegh would pick me up and 2and a half miles down a rather lonley road, I arrived at my grandparents home, and it was great. So today the farm is gone, it is now part of the park. How sad, but all are gone that is part of ot so it des not matter. These are memories that hits me once in awhile, and this time of the year brings them out . I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. May you get what you want and that you are safe if you are on the road. Barbara

There has been some recent debate on Mother's Milk and whether the milk should be shared amoung mothers but there should be no debate about the goodness of Mother's Milk.
The seven advantages of Mother's Milk are:
1. It is a perfect formula for the child
2. It provides immunity against several diseases
3. It is always the right temperature
4. It is inexpensive
5. It bonds the child to the mother, and vice versa
6. It is always available as needed
7. IT COMES IN 2 VERY ATTRACTIVE CONTAINERS
Should Mother's Milk be shared amoung nursing mothers???

Hello,
Herbie Bell, David Ronan, my cousin Joyce (Down here you would be mi prima), where are you? Even my former friend, Ted Ramsey. appears to be lost explointing the Africans.
There must be someone there who has something they want to share. At this stage I am ready to welcome your latest medical triumphs or even oblituary reports. Remember, the responsibility to inform the world that there is in fact a New Brunswick, falls on your shoulders. I am proud to be from the great country of Canada, but I am tired of having to say, "Well we are right next to Nova Scotia", before they get the geography correct.
You know, the thing that allegedly distinguishes us from the animals is our language, and the ability to communicate. In fact it is claimed by some anthropologists that the human larnyz, that let us enunciate words, and eventually a language, is what permitted us to rise above the other animals. And from there we went on to develop a written language. It appears that it is because American indians did not develop a written language, that they became victims of the European conquest. So lets not lose our ability to express opinions.
For example, why were the Vikings, who savaged all of Europe, defeated when they tried to settle Vinland (Now Newfoundland). I would love to hear some opinions. (Do they have internet in Eelground? maybe I could get some opinions from them.)
Well, my drink is wearing off so I will have to close. But remember, you do not need to imbibe to brave an answer to this.

O.K. You old farts, Keep this chat page alive. It is not our bodies that first give up, but our minds. As Shakespeare said "First we destroy the mind and then there is no defence". ( I am not sure those are the exact words but the message is correct.) Where is Herbie Bell who kept a rink in his (small) front-yard to develop his hockey skills? Hockey may have been the most important thing in the world then, but isn't staying alive and cogent today kind of important?
Don't Miramichier's have opinions on what is happening in the world today? Are they unaware that the brain-dead right is willing to destroy the U.S. if that is what is needed to get rid of that damned Obama who is of course not even an American. What do Miramichiers think of the Republican opposition to Obama trying to sign a treaty for a reduced nuclear arsenal with the Soviet Union?
Do Miramichier's have an opinion regarding the U.S., the greatest nation in the world (or at least used to be) lack or competance or integrity to provide the leval of healthcare that all other first-world contries provide for their citizens?
Come on, class of 53, it you fail me who is left to look up to?
Davie Ronan, I was never that close to you Mickeys, (except for Louis Fogan) but I am having trouble finding inspiration elsewhere. so I implead you, if you have any influence with the Pope, have him visit the Miramichi and invigorate us. Tell him even we protestants will come to the service.
Where is Td Ramsey when we really need him? Off exploiting the Africans, who have enough problems without him.
Anyway, my cocktail is starting to wear off so I will say goodnight. But note, if I can exploit my degradation to this extent, what is your excuse for failing to expose yourself to a permissive audience.

I guess with the weather change, and all holidays have been taken all are back at their daily work or routins. Noone seems to have much to tell us. I am starting the long haul of health tests, to determain why so much pain. The weather has at long last cooled a bit and one can step out side for a nice breath of air. Fall is my favorite time of the year, with the chahging of the colours and the briskness in the air. Spring brings us hope of a new start. With all comming to life and gives us hope. Fall we walk with a bit of briskness in our step and take the in the beautiful sights that tis time of the year brings us. How I long for a walk near the river. Guess I am just homesick today.
Greetings to all,

I still find it marvellous that the luncheons get such a good turn out. Thanks for the reports, Joyce - nice to get filled in even though it is without geting filled up. I had intended to call Bill Stothart on his July 6 (?) birthday but had trouble finding a phone number. Happy 75 Bill. I sent the following message via e-mail earlier today, but felt that I should put it on the Forum as well. Just in case someone might want to read it.

I can see that enthusiasm is being regenerated by the e-mails and obvious interest. It must be getting within a few years of the 60th reunion. I am glad some of the gang can remember the 1950s. I can only recall some guy named Elvis or something that sounds like that. Sorry you did not make it to Ottawa this summer, Joan and Jack. My wife is a part-time professor at Carleton U and I do some cooperative work with Carleton. What is the name of your grand-daughter, Joan? It is a small world. We may come into contact or if she looks like you Joan, I may recognize her or if she needs anything, perhaps we can help.

I happened to meet Jean Fong in a grocery store a few weeks ago. She was with her husband – of all the grocery joints in Ottawa she walked into my local one. She was enthusiastic about getting together with David McWilliam and company. I have periodic breakfasts with Lionel (Mink) Martin. We used to invite Art Ronan but he has not been well – I hope he is OK. Lionel is quite busy as a crew member for his son’s (grandson?) auto racing – racing around the country – but a fountain of Miramichi news. June White just passed through Ottawa last week having a quick visit with her son – unfortunately she did not have time for a visit with us.

I finally got in touch with David McWilliam. He is another busy one – sitting on the spare bench to fill in for judges, very active in law and legal work nationally and internationally, traveling all over the globe. I tried to set a date for a lunch with John Ronan, Jean, Lionel, my sister Lucy and David, but David is off somewhere for now. I will have to let Jean know of the delay. Jim Matheson and I spoke on our mutual 75th birthday. Jim, the elder, is unlikely to pass through Ottawa as much since his aging mother-in-law passed away. Ottawa is packed with New Brunswickers and Miramichiers. A local broader lunch is needed at some point.

I get asked about my retirement plans with increasing frequency. I have none. My wife made me buy four new shirts and two new suits – gotta wear them out and save one for the last – so cannot retire. However, young people want to help me cross streets and help me with my brief case. One old guy in his eighties asked if I needed help – I gave him the clenched fist. They may be trying to send me a message. As for memories of interesting incidents in high school, most that I remember are not flattering to me – so forget it. I always hoped that I would not be so shy and awkward with all the beautiful young women in the high school, but now I can lie to myself about missed opportunities.

I do have to say that we owe a lot to Louis for keeping the forum going, prodding us, keeping us informed on webpage protocol, putting up with us. Thank you Louis. While I do not have the best track record, I am willing to help as much as I can.

As I mentioned in an earlier e-mail, I will be out-of-country for much of October, November and likely December and January, 2011 – mainly Africa and Europe. I will try to contribute because I enjoy getting news and keeping in touch.

May you all be well and keep healthy,

Hi Everybody,

After many tries I finally made the Phorum. Many Thanks to Louis.
Our Reunion Group had a very enjoyable Luncheon on Tuesday at the Portage Restaurant.
We were honored to have present- Louis & Marion, Herbie & Toots, Mona & Dave, John & June
Ronnie & Norma, Bill & Janet Laura Sherrard , Joan Menzies Jim & Katrina Forrest (from California)
Missie Anderson
Art Matchett phoned my daughter-in-law (thinking thast he had me and said that he had to
attend a Funeral but to assure everybody that it was not his.
Louis read a great piece on being absent minded at our age (or my age) and had it ready
for our previous Luncheon in July but forgot it at home///
Regrets were sent by Joan B, Elaine, Joan Mahoney & Kay Pinder.
It was great to have Jim & Katrina with us and I know they enjoyed seeing everybody.//
Hopefully we can get together again before too long. Please let Louis or I know if anybody else
is coming to the Miramichi or you think it would be nice to just get together. We do not need
any excuse.
Hope to see you all soon. Keep well.

For those who may not remember or did not know, MAYMIE is David and Maymie Ronan. It is really Mary but everybody knows her as Maymie, at least in Chatham.

I did not buy my children an encyclopedia, I let them walk to school just like I did.( who said that?)

All is well here in Montreal. Summer is over and fall is moving in. In the last week we went from 35 degrees to 15 degrees. Wet and chilly today. We spent the last week of August north of Lindsay Ont. at a cottage with the family. With Labour Day here and gone and school opened, I would expect most cottagers are thinking of closing for the year.

Hello Barbara, nice hearing from you. Who is Barbara, Class of 55? Is there a way to identify people who post messages if they do not add their name?

FROM MAYMIE'S COOK BOOK:

Maybe hard work never killed anyone, but on the other hand, who ever heard of anyone resting to death?

Half the lies I tell are not true.

Never mind the Joneses, us Ronans were happy to keep up to the Waltons. We were so poor we received parcels from Europe during the war.

Kindest regards to all, David and Maymie

Sure there are Facebook, Classmates, My Space, Twitter, etc. But these sites are oversubscribed by people you have never heard of, dealing with topics that are often so trivial that you want to advise them to "get a life".
Being a part of a relatively exclusive blog such as Phorum is a real privilige which we should not lose.
If we still want to keep in touch with the Mad World, we can always open YouTube, or even (May God help you) Twitter.
Well, since I have nothing more important to say, I will just attach a picture of Katrina and me.

It's great to see Louis' Phorum active again. Because we are approaching the stage of our live's where we cannot expect our youthful health and vitality to last forever, I would like to relate an experience. Following my 73rd birthday I thought I would have a medical examination to confirm my great health.
As I expected, my vital signs such as blood pressure, cholesteral, etc. were fine. But then the DR decided to give me an EKG. Surprise! my heart was out of sync. The upper chambers were pumping at double the (normal) rate of the bottom chambers. The danger? this can permit ponding of blood in the heart. When this happens platelets can stick together, causing a blood clot which can result in a stroke or heart attack.
I am now going through the inconvenient process of finding the correct intake of Warfarin to avoid a blood clot, without permitting excess bleeding. A minor inconvenience, and preferable to the kind of surprise you can get without it.
