Happy St. Patrick's Day to all.

The following is a little Irish humour that may lighten up your day.

As soon as she had finished parochial school, a bright young girl named Lena shook the dust of Ireland off her shoes and made her way to New York where before long, she became a successful performer in show business.

Eventually she returned to her home town for a visit and on a Saturday night went to confession in the church which she had always attended as a child. In the confessional Father Sullivan recognized her and began asking her about her work. She explained that she was an acrobatic dancer, and he wanted to know what that meant.

She said she would be happy to show him the kind of thing she did on stage.

She stepped out of the confessional and within sight of Father Sullivan, she went into a series of cartwheels, leaping splits, handsprings and backflips. Kneeling near the confessional, waiting their turn, were two middle-aged ladies. They witnessed Lena's acrobatics with wide eyes, and one said to the other:

"Will you just look at the penance Father Sullivan is givin' out this night, and me without me bloomers on!"

Can another cousin join in on this conversation?
Joyce & Jim, It's great to hear from both of you. Jim I'm sorry to hear that you and Katrina will not make it home to N.B. this Christmas, but we will be lookiing forward to seeing you in the coming summer.

In preparation for Christmas, Marion and I spent the day yesterday putting up the outside "Christmas decorations" on the house before the winter snow comes, which, according to the latest weather forcast, is supposed to arrive tomorrow morning.

The week before Christmas, we will have to put up our "Christmas Tree" in the living-room. We used to be able go out in the woods and cut down a "Fir" tree, but now we go down the street to the "Christmas Tree" lot and buy one. This used to be a family undertaking with all our children involved, but the children now are all busy with their own homes and their own children. Though, they still want to decorate the tree that we put up in the house. I guess this is how life is supposed to be.

So nice to see input, especially if it is from you, my cousin, Joyce. (The blessings of coming from a numerically limited society). For example, how else would I know that David Ronan (Damned Mickey) is still alive and well (Keep it going David). I hope that Daryl has forgotten how I sat down at his table at the wedding receptiion for Ronny's daughter and drank the rest of his wine. At least Daryl maintained his Scottish politeness (??).
We planned to go to NB this Xmas (2011), but have now delayed it to the coming summer. Joyce, I hope you can arrange another lunchean for Katrina and I as you did at the airport last time I was home. Despite the remorse, I am thankful that I was able to talk to Ronny Matchett, before he left us.
As we near the freedom from all those things we were driven by, old remembrances become treasures.

Hi Everybody,

Finally made it back on our Forum. Have been very busy but I guess it does not take much to keep me busy.
Had our first small snowfall of the season yesterday. It was much bigger in the south of the porovince. Met Joan B. yesterday
in the Mall and we had a great say.David Ronan also called when he was in the Miramichi a few weeks ago. Thanks for
calling David.
As most of you heard, we had a nice Luncheon at the Fundy Line Motel Conference room this summer.
Beryl C. happened to be in town as was Don Taylor. We were delighted to see them both. If any of you are interested
in another Luncheon before the snow really sets in, please let me know.
Daryl & I spent some time at Oak Point with the family. Also had a short trip to Bangor this fall. Daryl
keeps busy but can't burn the candle t both ends like we used to do,
Thank you Louis for keeping this forum for us,
. All the Best to all of you.
the town of Pangnirtung which is in the territory of Nunavut just above the Artic Circle. He works
Marion and I are still living a relatively active life. I do my best to keep up with her. She says

I ventured out yesterday for my first outing after the surgerys. Got to see the people, lights, and no parking. I get 2 gifts, and came home, and fell asleep in the chair. I spent today thinking of Newcastle and it dawned on me, I never spent Christmas there in my life. I always spent it in Kouchibouguac. I would go by bus, a horse and sliegh would pick me up and 2and a half miles down a rather lonley road, I arrived at my grandparents home, and it was great. So today the farm is gone, it is now part of the park. How sad, but all are gone that is part of ot so it des not matter. These are memories that hits me once in awhile, and this time of the year brings them out . I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. May you get what you want and that you are safe if you are on the road. Barbara

Herbie Bell, David Ronan, my cousin Joyce (Down here you would be mi prima), where are you? Even my former friend, Ted Ramsey. appears to be lost explointing the Africans.
There must be someone there who has something they want to share. At this stage I am ready to welcome your latest medical triumphs or even oblituary reports. Remember, the responsibility to inform the world that there is in fact a New Brunswick, falls on your shoulders. I am proud to be from the great country of Canada, but I am tired of having to say, "Well we are right next to Nova Scotia", before they get the geography correct.
You know, the thing that allegedly distinguishes us from the animals is our language, and the ability to communicate. In fact it is claimed by some anthropologists that the human larnyz, that let us enunciate words, and eventually a language, is what permitted us to rise above the other animals. And from there we went on to develop a written language. It appears that it is because American indians did not develop a written language, that they became victims of the European conquest. So lets not lose our ability to express opinions.
For example, why were the Vikings, who savaged all of Europe, defeated when they tried to settle Vinland (Now Newfoundland). I would love to hear some opinions. (Do they have internet in Eelground? maybe I could get some opinions from them.)
Well, my drink is wearing off so I will have to close. But remember, you do not need to imbibe to brave an answer to this.

Lou,
Thank you for the update on Canadian politics. But I still think it is supeior to what we have down here. Here the fools still believe in the myth of "Government of the people, by the people, for the people."
But "by the people" means by our congress, which are certainly not the people. They do not have to contribute to their retirement, or to their health care, or are bound by the laws for the people. They are in fact the "King". And their performance, which has been totally for their own self interests, shows that they are not for the people. So we have "Government of the people, by the King, for the King". So after a brutal war of independence, Americans are now worse off than they were before 1776, because now we have multiple Kings.

Lou, thank you for the response. I realize that my diatribe implied interest only in U.S. politics, but Americans lump U.S. and Canada as being in the same kettle. Traditionally, when the U.S. sneezes, the rest of the world gets Pneumonia, and this must effect our greatest trading partner, Canada. Despite the gloom and doom of our far right, the U.S. still has the biggest economy in the world (China has just replaced Japan as number 2). Take care of yourself, and again, we ex-patriots thank you for the opportunity to maintain contact with our roots.

Jim,
We also have a problem in Canada similar to the problem that people of the U.S. are having with the Republicans having a majority in the Congress and the Senate.

Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, who came to office four years ago promising to appoint only senators who have been elected, has stacked the Senate with appointees who are friendly to his Conservative government. The Conservatives now outnumber the Liberals in the Senate and will soon have an outright majority in the Senate.

Federal Conservative senators have defeated a private-member’s bill on climate change that was passed by the majority of Members of Parliament in the House of Commons, marking the first time Prime Minister Stephen Harper has used the clout he has built in the Upper Chamber to kill a law his minority government does not support.

The bill, which was killed two weeks before Canada is to participate in a major international conference on climate change in Mexico, would have required the federal government to establish targets to bring greenhouse gas emissions to 25 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020, and to set a long-term target to bring emissions 80 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050.

We sympathize with you because we have a similar government in power here in Canada.

Barbra,
Thank you for being the only one who responded to my soap-box. Apparently, when we Canadians emigrate to the U.S. we lose our reluctance to state an opinion. My longest and greatest friend, Louis, saw fit to sanitize my recent input to remove the N word from my message. (Thank you Louis, I woke up last night worrying about that comment.) But that just establishes that we insecure Canadians are afraid to call a spade a spade ( No offence to Obama who is clearly the brightest prex we have had since Roosevelt).
Actually, I meet a lot or very prosperous Canadians down here. Maybe Canada's biggest problem is that those with B's always move to the U.S. ( I am not talking about myself; I have long recognized that I pay a great price for being a coward.)
Anyway, this is supposed to be a Chat Sheet /Web page for Miramichiers, and the only recent traffic is between ex-patriets. Hello! is anyone there listening? Show me you are alive.

I am not a member of the class of 53, and I did not get to graduate from Harkins, but I sure would have loved to. I live in the USA and I voted for this president, just could not see another 4 of the Bushs kind there. It has been bad for the working peple, lots without work. This started when Bush was in office. Time for a change It was time for health care here, the costs are terriable, as I can tell you from surgery Nov.1st and another tomorrow. Now with the recent election, and the house is republican they plan on getting rid of this one, as bad or good it may be, to again nothing. I dont think any one person could fix the mess that we and the world are in. What they need to do is get rid of all those that have made a life time in DCand will die there. They need some new blood, lots of it, new and better ideas. I wish that they would put the country first, they promise, but as soon as they take the oath they weaken, and become a member of the good old boys club. Its time they worked as a team, for the country, and not for the party. Now the first thing they will do is get started on the next election,so they can gback to DCfor their life in the house. I wish the bill would pass for time limits, but they will never pass that , they may have to work. Sorry I dont have a cocktail to blame for my thoughts, but I am doing drugs right now, rather strong, so I can say that is what made me answer you Jim. I look every day for messages from anyone from home and was very surprised to see a new one here. Keep it up. like the field of dreams, build it and they will come. Wish I had a hot pork sandwich from Kings right now. Baarbara

O.K. You old farts, Keep this chat page alive. It is not our bodies that first give up, but our minds. As Shakespeare said "First we destroy the mind and then there is no defence". ( I am not sure those are the exact words but the message is correct.) Where is Herbie Bell who kept a rink in his (small) front-yard to develop his hockey skills? Hockey may have been the most important thing in the world then, but isn't staying alive and cogent today kind of important?
Don't Miramichier's have opinions on what is happening in the world today? Are they unaware that the brain-dead right is willing to destroy the U.S. if that is what is needed to get rid of that damned Obama who is of course not even an American. What do Miramichiers think of the Republican opposition to Obama trying to sign a treaty for a reduced nuclear arsenal with the Soviet Union?
Do Miramichier's have an opinion regarding the U.S., the greatest nation in the world (or at least used to be) lack or competance or integrity to provide the leval of healthcare that all other first-world contries provide for their citizens?
Come on, class of 53, it you fail me who is left to look up to?
Davie Ronan, I was never that close to you Mickeys, (except for Louis Fogan) but I am having trouble finding inspiration elsewhere. so I implead you, if you have any influence with the Pope, have him visit the Miramichi and invigorate us. Tell him even we protestants will come to the service.
Where is Td Ramsey when we really need him? Off exploiting the Africans, who have enough problems without him.
Anyway, my cocktail is starting to wear off so I will say goodnight. But note, if I can exploit my degradation to this extent, what is your excuse for failing to expose yourself to a permissive audience.

Congratulatiions to Marien and You on fifty years of marriage. Too bad Katrina and I left N.B. just before the celebration.
When I noticed that you were married in 1960, the first thought I had was: Why wasn't I at the wedding? Then I remembered I was living then in Montreal, and wasn't there. Next, I remembered that I was also married in 1960, in Montreal (Verdun actually) and of course you were not there. In fact, of the few people who showed up, only 1 was from the Miramichi, and happened to be working in Montreal.
I love your marriage photo. You both looked so young (sorry).
One advantage of a long marriage is that you still have such photos. It seems when you get a divorce, the photos (and everything else) go with the Wife. Trina and I just celebrated our 25 year anniversity, so there is no way we could look as young as you and Marien in our marriage photo, so I will not go there.
Also, thank you so much for inviting us to dinner. I love sallmon, whether it is Norwegian, Alaskan or farm raised, but Miramichi salmon has no real competitiion.
